Tullow Oil plc is one of Europe’s leading independent oil and gas exploration and production companies with operations in over 20 countries across four core areas: Africa, Europe, South Asia and South America. The Group’s portfolio includes a mixture of oil and gas assets in mature and developing markets and a balance between growing production output and longer-term exploration projects. Production levels for 2008 averaged 66,600 barrels of oil equivalent per day and Reserves and Resources are currently 825 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Founded in Ireland in 1985, the Group's origins are in Africa where over 20 years of activity and experience have resulted in a very detailed knowledge of the petroleum provinces and basins on the continent. Tullow became active in South Asia in 1990, in the UK gas market in 2001 and acquired its first licences in South America in 2007.

In Africa the focus is primarily on oil with Tullow holding acreage in 14 countries across the continent. Production is from the Company’s interests in Gabon, Côte d’Ivoire, Congo (Brazzaville), Equatorial Guinea and Mauritania. In the last three years Tullow has seen major success in Africa with the discovery of the world class Jubilee field offshore Ghana and a new oil province in the Lake Albert Rift Basin in Uganda.

Operatorship of the Jubilee field, which is scheduled to commence first production in the second half of 2010, and the ongoing process of commercialisation of the Lake Albert Rift Basin will create a step change in Tullow’s business over the coming years. As well as these exciting projects the Company has extensive exploration acreage in 11 African countries.

In Europe Tullow’s assets are focused on gas in the UK Southern North Sea where it has established a strong portfolio of production, development and exploration assets around two key infrastructure hubs, Thames and the Caister Murdoch System. Tullow currently operates over 60% of its gas production and generates tariff income from the transportation of third party gas through its infrastructure. Since 2007 the Company has been extending its European portfolio and has built an attractive exploration position offshore the Netherlands and offshore Portugal.

Tullow’s South Asian operations are in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Current production from the region is modest but there is considerable potential for further long term development based on the growing regional energy demand. Tullow holds substantial working interests in 5 key highly potential exploration license in the frontier borders of Pakistan.

In South America Tullow holds interests in Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana and is evaluating other potentially attractive new venture opportunities in the region.

Tullow aims to conduct its business to the highest industry standards in a way that is ethical and safe, minimises its impact on the environment and ensures that it is open with, and supportive to the local communities and countries where it has operations.

The Company is quoted on the London and Irish stock exchanges and joined the FTSE 100 in September 2007. Tullow has its headquarters in London and two other main offices in Dublin and Cape Town as well as 12 local offices throughout Africa, South Asia and South America.
